Activities like interacting with buddies and colleagues, sharing ideas and sending mails have become the major marketing tool as well as a critical role player in the social interaction across the tradition based Arab world.Currently, with the increasing amount of traffic and website movements, the social networking websites have become the hot spots for scammers and malware creators.

Taking the advantage of the user’s trust in the network relationships, these fraudsters are spreading virus and spending innumerable kinds of spam messages that are quite harmful. As per Bulent Teksoz, the Chief Security Strategist of Emerging Market Symantec; people get trapped or become victims of hackers when they unknowingly click on the friends’ page or Like option. He also said that in most of such attacks, people are subjected to use a variety of social engineering tricks to make a fool of the user and spread their malware programs.

Also besides reposting the spam messages to friends and known people, the attacks could lead users to fraud surveys and sites that cause permanent and untold damages to the user’s computers or laptops. Many anti-virus and anti-spam removal companies have come forward saying that it is very much imperative for Middle East users to know about scams and spams cropping on Facebook. So it is very difficult to stop these hackers from accessing their private information like photos, friends list, etc.

There is a set of methods or technology by which people of the Middle East can overcome such scams like reverse website or any other website that can take care of phone scams or scams related to phone usage. Now how do these scammers go about with their business? It is important to study how these scammers imply their strategies in order to stay away from them and be safe. Now study the following methods
• Clicking ‘Like’ or ‘Share’ – A prominent way of getting access to the user’s information is through this method. The scammer will request the user to like or share a particular Facebook page to gain privilege or make the content available in the Facebook. Now after liking the page, the user will be send to another website where a survey will be held. In that survey, the owner of the website who is the hacker will ask for personal information to confirm the request. Not only they get the personal information but also for each view they get a certain percentage of commission.

• Mutiple ‘Like’ Clicking – Some of the malicious pages will have hidden ‘like’ button on them. Now how this particular spam occurs is that the user will see an interesting video. When the user clicks on the play button, the video will not be played as behind the play button, the ‘Like’ button is hidden. Now the user will click multiple times, but instead of playing the video, the number of likes the video gets will increase. There are chances that in some pages, the user will be asked to click multiple times to get many likes.

• Take over by Malicious Apps – This is one of the most common methods used by hackers to gain access to a user’s account. The user will see an application in the Facebook and will download it. Once it gets downloaded, the user’s account gets hacked, because the app is a malicious program. This malicious program will give the hacker instant access to the user’s private messages and will also give the ability to post on the wall, chat with friends and even try other apps.

• Copy-Paste URL–Now another way of gaining access to a person’s Facebook account is enticing with an interesting video or website. To watch the video or see the website, the person will copy and paste the information i.e. the URL in the address bar of the browser. Once the URL is posted in the address bar, the access of the particular account goes into the hand of the scammer. Then the scammer will post scams and do other illegal activities on the person’s behalf.

• Hoaxes or False News–Now Facebook users should really beware of such hoaxes. There will be an interesting story or some news and to generate traffic the spammer will post it on Facebook and ask people to like it. Now this is not that bad, but the only disadvantage is that it leads to unwanted traffic to a content which is meaningless.

The only feasible solution to avoiding such fraudulent activities is by using their smartphone or PC to update their social networking status, they need to have a cautious approach. Also they have to remove offending post, apps that are least interesting and by changing passwords. Now users can also go to websites like and if they feel that it is under attack.
Some of these steps can prevent your account from being hacked or at least make life more difficult for the hacker so that the crime rates are reduced to a great extent.
